11. Demonetisation of subsidiary coin owing to excessive discount.

Since 1906 shipments of subsidiary coin to the Crow Agents with a, view to demonetizing them have been made totalling $12,607,459 up to the end of 1914. During the year 10 cent pieces to the face value of £5,000,000 were shipped to England in furtherance of the policy of endeavouring to bring the subsidiary coinage of the Colony which circulates at present at a considerable discount to par. Demonetisation on a large scale was not undertaken until last year as the Ordinances prohibiting the circulation of foreign silver and nickel coin only came into force on 1st March, 1914. It is hoped that the effect of demonetisation of 10 cent pieces on a large scale will have the desired effect of bringing them to par
